Vandana Nangia

A great catalyst, an eminent Special Educator and Development Counsellor, I started my career at Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute, New Delhi. I worked for 18 years as a special educator and Counsellor at Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. I am an alumnus of Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi, holding a Masters in Child Development, Bachelors in Integrated Education from Bhoj University topping the list for Delhi State, and Post Graduate Diploma in Counseling and Guidance from Annamalai University. Being an eminent trainer, I’ve been a visiting lecturer to National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped, Delhi University and NIPCCD. I have conducted several workshops in the field of special education for parents, teachers, paediatricians, counsellors and students. I have also been a faculty in the Autism Training Workshop for Delhi Government Doctors organised by Department of Paediatrics, Maulana Azad Medical College and at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. My work has received national and international recognition and has been awarded for the same. I received the “NATIK PURUSKAR” by Gulzarilal Nanda Foundation for reestablishing the moral and ethical values and creating awareness in the area of special Ed at the National and Social level in Aug 2009 and “ENDEAVOUR INDIA EXECUTIVE AWARD” for professional development from the Australian Government in Apr 2008. I conferred the Lady Irwin College Distinguished “ALUMNI OF DECADE AWARD” last year for my outstanding professionalism in the field of developmental services related to children including parents and teachers. I was also awarded the “EMPOWERED WOMAN AWARD” on International Women’s Day on 8th March 2020, by Urvashi foundation for my contribution to the field of special education and counselling. My publications include co-authorship for a chapter on Autism for a book entitled “Childhood Disabilities”, aimed at broadening the horizons of paediatricians as part of NCERT international project. I Authored a unit for a teacher training module on introduction and remediation of learning disability for primary school mainstream teachers as sponsored by the Indira Gandhi National open university. I, in joint authorship with my father Prof OP Sharma, published a book - Empowering self for success for a personality development module. I contributed a series of eighteen articles published in a Hindi monthly that was later published as a book titled AAP KI JEET AAPKE HAATH MEIN - co-authored with Dr Praveen Mehta. Also, I published an article in the book ‘Childhood Disabilities 'with the title Management of Autism disorder. A firm believer in God, I, with all my potential reach out to one and all particularly children at large through effectively spreading knowledge along the entire value chain of parents, teachers, administrators and policy-makers.
